Inspired by some of the talks at the Random String symposium last week, I headed off to Sheffield yesterday for a day learning laser cutting at Access Space. I knew virtually nothing about the process, but there are people doing great work combining it with letterpress, including Nick Loaring at The Print Project and Tom Mayo. It was also nice to see the space after hearing about Juneau Projects’ residency there during the symposium. Tutor Toni works with Inkscape, a free open source piece of software that’s easy to pick up and generate shapes and words. Thanks to her and Access Space, I now have a whole new area to explore, figuring out how it might affect my practice.
